Diwaneg Management

Environmental and Nature Conservation
Petit Mbao, Bras de Mer Neighborhood

Overview

The Diwaneg Management Association is a culture-based organization founded by rapper Leuz Diwang. Recognizing the severity of Mbao’s environmental issues—including the problem of the Mbao backwater, which is threatened by sewage discharge, coastal erosion that threatens a large part of the village of Mbao, and the issue of the Mbao Protected Forest—Dakar’s sole green lung against pollution—the association has made environmental protection its primary objective through initiatives such as cleaning the marigot, the beach, and the village; reforestation efforts throughout the village; and public awareness campaigns to protect the environment from these risks. The association has established a Community Ecological Zone (ZEC) bringing together more than twenty-seven local associations with the goal of protecting the environment and addressing environmental issues in Mbao.
