We are two students in Rotterdam School of Management (Erasmus University Rotterdam), Malena and Quentin. The Positive Change Initiative in RSM created the SDG Ambassadors programme, in which 17 students take the lead in their own projects to act on a sustainable development goal (SDG). We are SDG ambassadors for clean water and sanitation (SDG 6) and life below water (SDG 14).
This year we are organizing a beach cleanup. The event will potentially take place in Scheveningen at the end of May. We are thinking about organizing the beach cleanup either Saturday 25th or Sunday 26th, or the weekend after. We are planning on cleaning the beach in a group of approximately 50-100 but more is of course always welcomed!
The aim of such an action is to bring people together to protect the area from the diverse sources of plastic. This plastic includes foam, bags, straws, butts, microplastic, and bottles.
This action will not only result in the beach cleanup but will be about raising awareness on the importance of protecting our water resources, so vital to all of us. We are not experts in the topic, however, our goal is to educate young populations (students) on basic actions they can individually and collectively implement to protect our beaches and oceans.
It will also be a way for the students/participants to be part of the solution .
We are optimistic and strongly believe that there is still hope. Together, we will have a positive impact and will be the change.
